Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent said final approval for $4.85 million in funding for reconstruction work on the Port Welshpool Long Jetty had now been given.

“Today I received a letter from Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash announcing the approved funding of $4,858,100 under the Community Development Grants Programme to the South Gippsland Shire Council,” Mr Broadbent said.

“South Gippsland Shire Council will now take the lead on delivering this essential community project. As I’ve said in the past, countless hours of work have gone into the long-term campaign to secure Commonwealth funding.

“I congratulate all those selfless people who have pushed to see this project funding come to fruition. I look forward now to seeing the work undertaken and, ultimately, completed.”

Mr Broadbent also reiterated his thanks to Senator Nash and other politicians for backing the plan to reconstruct the Gippsland icon after it was severely damaged by fire.

“I thank Senator Nash, Minister for Infrastructure Darren Chester and former Victorian Deputy Premier and Member for Gippsland South Peter Ryan for all their efforts in helping to ensure the successful delivery of this funding,” Mr Broadbent said.
