Federal Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent has welcomed the activation of disaster assistance for Victorians affected by storms in the Cardinia Shire.

“The Emergency Re-establishment Grants of up to $32,000 per eligible household would assist those eligible households in Cardinia experiencing financial hardship to recover from the storm’s devastating impacts,” Mr Broadbent said.

“Assistance has been made available under the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).”

Individuals in the Cardinia Shire area can now access the following emergency grants to relieve personal hardship and distress:

•Emergency Relief Assistance Payments, which provides paymentsof up to $520 per adult and $260 per child (up to a maximum of $1,300 per household) is available to help meet immediate needs, includingemergency food, shelter, clothing, and personal items.

•Emergency Re-establishment Grants provide up to $32,500 pereligible household experiencing financial hardship, who have been floodaffected at their primary place of residence. The grants are available forclean-up, emergency accommodation, repairs, rebuilding (a principalplace of residence), and replacing some damaged contents.

“The Australian Government stands ready to assist affected Victorian communities and I am pleased to see this funding announced,” Mr Broadbent said.
