Gippsland Youth Councils Summit

Latrobe City will be hosting the 2015 Gippsland Youth Councils Summit over two and a half days in late June 2015 funded through a State Government Youth Inclusion Grant. This will be an opportunity for Councillors, Members of Parliament and Senior Management from across the six Gippsland Councils to engage with Youth Councillors.

The two day Youth Summit is targeted at members of Youth Councils from across Gippsland. Youth councillors will be arriving at Federation University, Churchill on Sunday 28 June 2015. The Youth Summit will officially commence on Monday 29 June 2015 and conclude on Tuesday 30 June 2015.

The Gippsland Youth Summit aims to:

Provide participants with the opportunity to develop leadership skills and the ability to be part of and lead a group.

Increase civic participation by young people in the community.

Develop young people’s knowledge of the issues that affect them at a Federal, State and Local Government level.

Allow young people to interact directly with members of Councils and Councillors from surrounding areas.

The program will include:

Discussions on Local Government Issues – identifying what is important to young people

Sessions on processes for influencing decision making – how local government can best engage young people in decision making.

Discussions on local youth issues

Motivational speakers

There will also be a formal dinner with Councillors, Members of Parliament, Executive members and Youth delegates from participating municipalities.
