A project to expand support for the health and well being of senior citizens and the visually impaired in Moe will receive a $1-million boost if the Coalition wins this month’s Federal Election.
Russell says a Coalition Government will provide the major portion of the cost of improvements to facilities used by the Keenagers Group and Vision Australia at the Latrobe Leisure Centre.
Russell says the expansion of the centre will provide a permanent place within the leisure centre for the regular table tennis activities of the two groups.
"At present, members of the Keenagers and Vision Australia groups use basketball courts at the centre for their regular table tennis sessions," he said.
"They have to set up the 12 tables beforehand and then pack them away again when they are finished.
"The expansion of the centre will enable the installation of 12 permanent table tennis tables and two specially modified Swish tables to enable the vision impaired to play table tennis."
Russell said the total estimated cost of the project is $1.2-million.
"It will be of tremendous benefit to the 74 members of Keenagers, who range in age from 55 to the late 80’s. They rely on the regular table tennis sessions to retain mobility and general fitness."
